Why Lookslike.ca?
As many of you know it is because of how the day may end in our many travels. How ever there is a more complete meaning. That is to say that after traveling from Anne of Green Gables to Niagara and Victoria I noticed a distinct lack of Canadian product.
Lookslike is my contribution to being Canadian. At first I decided on exclusively Canadian content; I have changed to accommodate the market and include my images of Europe.
Having said this, all our products are made and printed here, in house, by Karin and myself. As we grow the cards may be printed under supervision, but never will they leave this country. The prints and canvas will always be printed and signed by me. This is my electronic darkroom and I love it.
I was approached and the offer was to cut my production costs by 90%. I do not believe this, but it is of no matter - I want the few jobs we create to be Canadian.
You should also know that the card stock we use comes from the United States and I consider the U.S. an extension of our country, not only that, but about 80% of the customers at the St. Lawrence Market are from the U.S. In this I consider our two countries as one trading place.
The paper we use is Hahnemuele, which is German, and known to be the finest paper in the world. I can hear you thinking about the fact we use U.S., German, and no doubt a Japanese printer.
Well my answer is simple: We use as much Canadian content as possible. We are talking to a Canadian paper company to supply us with a 100% Canadian paper. This has proven to be no easy task. The other answer is, that as Canadians we are a country of nations working together to make a better place than where we came from. To this end we have to learn to work together and make that dream a reality.
Thank You
Ian Bradshaw
