April 30th 2009

First off my sincere apologies for not being more regular posting my comments here.

Here are some quick updates;

  1. Currently at Ajax City Council Chambers I have an exhibition of some of my more popular work. Drop by it is an amazing space and I feel very lucky to be allowed this space and wish to thank Mayor Steve Parish and Ajax city council for this opportunity.
  2. DO NOT FORGET TO COME TO AJAX FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS, MAY 30TH VILLAGE COMMUNITY CENTER AND ARENA. 100 CHURCH ST. AJAX. I WILL BE THERE ALL DAY.10 AM -5 PM
  3. I will have an exhibit in Cobourg/Port Hope come September.  I met with the curator, Dorreth Carter early in April and she offered an exhibit in September. This, for me, is different as some people who know me. Know when I want to play hookey one of my favorite places to go for a day is Cobourg and hang out at the gallery there. The work always has something new for me and maintains an excellent standard.
  4. Starting May 15th 2009 you will find our small canvas in Old Fort Henry and possibly later on at Uppr Canada Village and Niagara Falls.
  5. Also Ariana’s Place 68 King St in Oshawa, Irene is carrying a small selection of our cards and she owns and operates a lovely art/gift store which makes downtown Oshawa a little better. Drop in if your out that way and check out some of the art from the 80-year-old lady from Ajax, it is stunning.
  6. The Kniterary in Whitby has the sheep card, what an awesome store. If you get a chance go to this wool and knitting store, it is like stepping into the living room you wish you had. Warm, cozy and the kind of place that makes you want to sit and enjoy.
  7. Lorans on Liverpool road in Pickering. Wow….what can I say this is a really cool place to visit. The whole area is very different, perhaps a lot like the Beeches downtown Toronto. Except it is far cleaner and some how more welcoming. I found it by accident while out cycling one Saturday morning. There are some very nice homes and a few small shops built with a harbor at the end of Liverpool road in Pickering. Two restaurants and Loran’s plus a winemaking store. Parking is free and good for three hours. Ann has some very unique gifts at her store; I love the hot air balloon wind vein she has. She is also carrying a small selection of my larger canvas prints.
  8. Ok, Goof is insisting I tell you about my day April 30th. He says I am getting too busy and he needs more walk time.

5.30 am I got up, made my usual one cup of coffee. I grind the beans for just enough; Goof supervises the making of the coffee. Once it is made he throws Kong at me to make sure I take it with us. Off we go to Greenwood Park; here we walk for an hour or so. I take a few shots or plan some and together we play Kong. Today we got home around 7.30 am. I love breakfast and it is always good. A demi tasse of coffee, fresh bread, one egg a few slices of tomatoe.Today I have large prints to finish, 4 x 4 feet. They have to be delivered and hung today. There is always something we forget. There is minor problem with a file from one computer to the other. This delays my departure by about an hour.

10 a.m. I leave for down town Toronto. First stop to pick up foam core and do chores at the bank etc.11 am or so arrive at A & E Chocolatiers. Empty car and start work. I have made a custom frame for the large sign. The sign has to be first glued to the foam core base and then held in place on the wall with the frame.

I hate gluing signs to foam care it can go horribly wrong, and has done. I have to work outside on the back patio, because of the glue fumes. Today it goes without a hitch and the frame I made fits perfectly. The sign glues with no fuss or muss. I am pleased.

12.30 leave A& E, Head over to old city hall. Traffic court. Yep, speeding 65 in a 50. What annoyed me was the ticket was pre written and the policeman was extremely ignorant. It is only a $45.00 ticket, but I felt slighted. This is my third appearance for the same ticket, it has cost the City of Toronto about $2000.00 so far and I haven’t entered a plea yet. I am undecided.

1.30. Ok enough fun. I enter a guilty plea; I think the prosecutor was relieved last time she made it very clear she was angry when I decided to challenge the officer. She tried to bulldoze the judge into a hasty decision. Luckily for me the judge saw through her mal intent and granted me an adjournment.

Back to A & E, Karin was there and we had some canvas to hang. This we did moved some pieces around and finished around 3.30.

Hit the highway, as usual sit in traffic on the DVP for an hour before reaching the 401 and home.

Guess what comes next, yes afternoon KONG….about an hour usually, but today was raining , so it was kept relatively short. 30 minutes or so. By this time it was close to 6, home and a quick dinner. We don’t usually eat zapped meals , but yesterday was an exception. We had a show opening to go to plus some groceries, i.e. kibble for his master, to get.

So off we went at 7. We went to a high school exhibition hosted by DWAC on Kingston Road. It was a good effort and we stayed for a while and enjoyed the images and people.

Next had to stop by and pick up my friend, JW then home.

JW and I had rather pleasant end of day conversation, Karin walked Goof and the day was done.

My very own page…WOW it has only taken a little over two years for me to have this. Ok first off, meet Goof… my assistant, he is in charge of travel and complaints. Rumors abound that he is over protective and a no nonsense kind of dog.  He prefers to be known as one canine that loves his family and has no tolerance for fools. Well except if you’re a cute Shepard, he has met a few and of course one very, very seductive Daschund named Lucy.

So without further ado here’s Goof….

Ok this is where I get to say what I like.

First off, many people ask about   my thought process as I shoot. My work for me is first nature and all though this may disappoint many of you. Here is how my mind was working at around 7 am today as I walked and planned a couple of shots for the day;

Bacon, back bacon or sausage with my eggs?  Fresh bread with butter or yesterdays toasted? Fresh sliced CANADIAN tomatoes or canned? Mushrooms and cheese in an omelet or straight two over easy?

Ah yes here are the three trees I have been eyeing for some three months or more, now I had planned on this stance at f8 around 1/20th of a second. Hmmmm a tad dark still I will have to wait at least 20 minutes. Goof do you mind if we hang out and Kong for a while, it’s -15°C so I need to ask him. The decision is mdae Kong is thrown and we wait for a little more light. Of course meanwhile there are deer tracks to smell. There was a coyote by this way not so long ago too. Such is how many of my shoots go.  Ok I am off for the day, tomorrow I will announce a road trip and print classes.
